چکیده

Chronic renal disease is frequent in the general population. In the case of epidemia or pandemia of avian influenza A (H5N1), the two neuraminidase inhibitors, oseltamivir and zanamivir will therefore be used in patients with renal impairment. Although zanamivir does not necessitate any adjustment of its dosage in patients with renal failure, because it is not absorbed after oral inhalation, oseltamivir dosage must be reduced by half in patients with CrCl between 15 and 30ml/min and may be used at the usual dose when CrCl is higher.

Incidence and Predisposing Factors of Vancomycin-Induced Nephrotoxicity in Children

INTRODUCTION To investigate the pattern of vancomycin-associated nephrotoxicity in children and to examine potential predisposing factors for nephrotoxicity, including average serum trough concentrations ≥10 μg/mL. METHODS Patients ≥1 week old to ≤15 years with normal baseline serum creatinine values who received vancomycin for ≥48 h between October 2010 and September 2012 were retrospectivel...

Elevated Vancomycin Trough Concentration: Increased Efficacy and/or Toxicity?

Vancomycin susceptibility of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus has been changed over time and its average minimum inhibitory concentration increased from 1.5 to 1.75 mg/L. A recently published guideline by the American Society of Health Pharmacist recommended a daily dose of 15-20 mg/kg every 8 to 12 hours of vancomycin to achieve a trough concentration between 15-20 mg/L for treatmen...

Lack of vancomycin-associated nephrotoxicity in newborn infants: a case-control study.

OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to compare the incidence of nephrotoxicity, defined as doubling of baseline serum creatinine concentration, in newborn infants with peak vancomycin serum concentrations 40 microg/mL. A secondary objective was to correlate concomitant disease states and potentially nephro...

The relationship between serum neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin and renal function in patients with vancomycin treatment.

Background Vancomycin is used for the treatment of resistant staphylococcal and enterococcal infections but is associated with nephrotoxicity. Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) was recently identified as a sensitive biomarker for acute kidney injury. Here, we aimed to investigate the usefulness of serum NGAL in monitoring patients undergoing vancomycin therapy. Methods A total ...

The Effect of Hydration Therapy with and without Magnesium Sulfate on Prevention of Cisplatin-Induced Nephrotoxicity

Background: Cisplatin is an antineoplastic agent used to treat many malignancies; however, the main side effect of cisplatin is nephrotoxicity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of hydration therapy with and without magnesium on prevention of cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity. Methods: This retrospective study was performed on 46 patients with malignancy who were candidate to rec...
